Joseph Campbell Myth & Meaning Book Club

The Joseph Campbell Foundation has partnered with Literati to create the Jospeh Campbell Myth & Meaning Book Club. The club features a curated monthly title, selected by mythologists and Campbell scholars as well as leaders from other disciplines with a unique perspective and interest in myth. The club is meant to be an easy entry point for those just beginning to engage Campbell’s work and the larger work of myth fostering discussion, community and resources. Each month subscribers receive a hard copy of the book in unique packaging, a bookmark designed with a quote from the book, and a letter from a representative from JCF explaining why the title was chosen. Further, subscribers have access to Literati’s on-line portal for the club, where they can engage in discussions about the book with other members and take part conversations lead by the Joseph Campbell Foundation.

The inaugural title for the club is Wade Davis’s The Wayfinders. The book explores what it means to be human and alive by reaching for the answers that each culture uniquely provides to these questions. Davis is professor of anthropology and the B.C. Leadership Chair in Cultures and Ecosystems at Risk at the University of British Columbia. Between 1999 and in 2013 he served as Explorer-in-Residence at the National Geographic Society and is currently a member of the NGS Explorers Council and Honorary Vice-President of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society. Named by the NGS as one of the Explorers for the Millennium, he has been described as “a rare combination of scientist, scholar, poet and passionate defender of all of life’s diversity.” In 2014, Switzerland’s leading think tank, the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute of Zurich, ranked him 16th in their annual survey of the top 100 most influential global Thought Leaders.
